Helping Children Thrive Is More Important Than Ever


You want to support your children to grow and develop with the resilience they need to not only face the setbacks that inevitably will come (and not just pandemics), but also be able to thrive in life.  Children can learn to deal with uncertainty, with your support helping them to develop the skills and strategies to bounce forward.

Bounce Forward has supported thousands of parents and families, up and down the country in a way that is practical and based on science. Parents recognise the benefits of spending a little time with us to learn and understand the ideas for themselves (always useful) and then use our resources with their children at home.

Raise Resilience starts with personal resilience, how to look after yourself, building self awareness about what might be getting in the way, and helping you notice what is going well and your strengths as a parent. The materials to use with your children at home, come as an added extra, and a way to help you structure the way you build resilience in your children.

  • What is it?

    Six sessions that walk you through the science of resilience and how to build in for yourself and your children.

    Facilitated either as a virtual, on-line course of a programme delivered in school face to face.

    We provide parents with learning materials that can be used at home to help children develop the mental muscle, gain perspective and thrive through difficult times.

  • Who is it for?

    Raise Resilience is useful for all parents who want to learn resilience skills. The downloadable worksheets are designed for children aged nine and above.

    We often get asked whether the materials are suitable for children with SEN. Whilst we have not specifically designed the materials for SEN they can be easily adapted and shaped in different ways. The materials work best for children who are able to think about their thinking.

    The intention is to give parents the space to think about their own resilience and provide the materials which can help at home. This may be through the way they have conversations with their children as well as more (in)formal learning spaces within the home environment.

  • Are the sessions suitable for children?

    The sessions are intended for parents on their own. You can help your children develop resilience using the information gained and through the downloadable worksheets we’ll send to you.

  • Is it available on demand? 

    Yes, the course is recorded and provided to all registered participants on-demand. Each recording is sent out after each session and listed as a playlist at the end of the course.

Terms and conditions

Course Overview 

Session 1: Introduction to resilient parenting

What is resilience. The ages and stages for developing resilience in our children. How the brain works and the importance of negative and positive emotions.

Session 2: Optimism during uncertainty

This session explores the link between what we think, how we feel, and how we behave. Flexible and realistic thinking lies at the heart of resilience, it enables us to do the ‘right’ thing at the right time, so we achieve the best possible outcome. Optimism wedded to reality.

Session 3: Developing the mental muscle

Helping our children gain more control over how they feel and behave. Reframing unhelpful choices, and developing empathy for self and others, so we can navigate uncertainty and learn to fail well.

Session 4: Compassionate communication

Effective communication is essential as our children move into adolescence. We can find ourselves in cycles of nagging and bickering and focusing on the ‘big’ conversations, and with it, we become disconnected. Resilience and compassion are the keys to staying connected.

Session 5: Mindsets and Energy

Nurturing and developing a growth mindset in our children. Understanding the psychological link between energy, emotions and behaviour.

Session 6: Parenting to strengths

Identifying the unique strengths of our children and us – and how to use them to best effect.


You will also be given downloadable handouts and worksheets to practice resilience skills with your children.
