Resilient Futures Supported by ThriveLDN

Skills Young Adults Need to Thrive

More and more we understand the importance enabling young people to be the change they want to see. None of us knows what is around the corner and so we need to equip the next generation with the skills and strategies to deal well with setbacks, learn to fail well and recognise how to thrive.

We are delighted to be able to bring Resilient Futures to London with the support of ThriveLDN

Young people may be working towards outstanding academic qualifications, or struggled through, either way they need to develop life skills. This moment is shining a light on what is important to human beings and what needs to change. For example the depth of inequality and bias that exists, the implications of a technology dominant world, and the impact of our behaviour on the environment, are all issues that we need to empower young people to effect. Teaching resilience will deliver on all of these.

Resilient Futures is a series of three, 90 minute webinars, on the science of resilience, why it is important and most importably how to build personal resilience. The webinars guide young adults through essential learning to understand how to get through challenging times, recognise that failure is part of success and learn how to look after themselves. In doing so they also learn to care for others. We have an opportunity, right now, a unique moment in our history, to make a difference, to be able to look back and be proud of how we responded to this situation in a way that helps young people thrive to a better future.

We have been supported by ThriveLDN to bring Resilient Futures to young people living in Barking and Dagenham. You have received this link as you have been offered access to the course for up to five young people. You will join the course so you can experience the learning for yourself and so you can be the main contact and a source of support for your students in between the sessions.

Please book your places by completing the booking form on the right of this page.

Bounce Forward Resilient Futures

Is a series of three on-line webinars. Find out more below.

  • Session 1: Personal resilience and positive mental health

This session sets the tone and explores what we mean by resilience and why it is important. Positive mental health isn’t about being happy all of the time. It is the tangible steps we can take to look after ourselves that become good habits that enable us to function well in our daily lives. The importance of negative and positive emotions and how emotions are connected to both energy and performance are discussed.

  • Session 2: Optimism, hope and navigating uncertainty

This session explores the link between what we think, how we feel, and how we behave. Flexible and realistic thinking lies at the heart of resilience, it enables us to do the ‘right’ thing at the right time, so we achieve the best possible outcome. Learning to think optimistically and remaining wedded to reality is the key to the agency we believe we have and the difference we make.

  • Session 3: Communication, mindsets and personal strengths

Effective communication is essential for human connections and for change. Not being able to express oneself in a calm, clear and confident way can mean we become disconnected, give up and feel we cannot make a difference.

This session explores human bias and how it exists in all of us. How we can make change happen through a growth mindset, through kindness and compassionate communication.

Finally this session helps young adults identify their strengths and how to use them to best effect.

The ‘live’ webinars can cater for groups of up to 25 young adults.

Each of the three sessions is 90 minutes long. They are interactive and include input from Bounce Forward, activities to engage young people in the learning, group conversation and individual reflection.

  • Do participants need to attend live?

Yes, the programme is fully interactive. Attendees are asked to use their camera and sound settings so they can interact.

  • Is Resilient Futures certified?

Yes, each person who completes the three sessions will receive a certificate acknowledging the development hours.

It is hoped the learning and development inspires attendees to become local champions for resilience as a set of tools for thriving futures.

  • Where is it?

The webinars will take place on Zoom, an online platform.

The Zoom app can be download for free here. Once installed on the device, simply click on the meeting link provided by us at the allocated time, and we will take care of the rest.

There is a useful video tutorial on how to join a meeting here.

What Young People Say

“This helps to look at situations in-depth rather than just how they seem on the surface.”

“It has helped me be more mature.”

“It has made me a calmer person. I don’t catastrophise as much anymore. I was snappy to make decisions in the past, but now I slow down and assess situations.”
