Why psychologically fit schools start with the adults
Begin the academic year by building the culture you want to sustain.
Register for freeSeptember changes the workplace too
September is more than the beginning of a new timetable. It brings new routines, relationships, expectations and possibilities—and renewed pressure across the whole school.
The way adults experience and respond to these early weeks helps shape the culture pupils encounter throughout the year.
That is why psychologically fit schools start with the adults.
To mark International Week of Happiness at Work, Bounce Forward and Bounce Together invite everyone working in and with schools to join The September Shift.
What we will explore
This is not about expecting staff to remain positive through every difficulty—or adding another responsibility to already busy people.
What it means in everyday school life and how it helps people regulate, recover and adapt.
Why happiness at work is about more than feeling positive—and must not minimise real pressures.
How adult behaviour, relationships and responses help shape the culture pupils experience.
Why staff insight should guide what a school chooses to protect, strengthen or change.
How staff learning can connect with pupil learning and meaningful family engagement.
Actions schools can take to build a stronger, healthier and more connected culture.
What is psychological fitness?
Psychological fitness is the combination of mental resilience and emotional wellbeing that helps people understand themselves, think flexibly, maintain hope, stay connected and respond more effectively to possibility, pressure, challenge and change.
It gives people practical skills for meeting reality with greater awareness, flexibility and confidence in what they can do next.
