We’re all playing our part by staying safe at home and adapting to new routines. Resilience allows us to deal with uncertainty and get through challenging times in the best way – and we’re here to help. Join us for six resilience sessions to explore and build your resilience and get learning materials for your children.

Fully funded by Oldham Council 

This is a fully interactive virtual group, with engagement between you and the trainer, therefore you are encouraged to use a web camera where possible. A maximum of 15 parents can sign-up to each course which are allocated on direction by Oldham Council.

  • Why are we doing this?

    We have adapted our resilience training to online sessions in order to reach parents at a time when they need it most. Our aim is to ease some of the strain caused by family’s staying home.

    The sessions will provide tools and resources for you and your children to build resilience and use the current situation as a learning opportunity that will help right now and into the future.

  • What is it?

    An on-line environment to take you through the science of resilience and how to build in for yourself and your children. We will provide you with learning materials that can be built into the home school day to help your children develop the mental muscle, gain perspective and thrive through this difficult time.

  • Do I have to attend all six sessions?

    We hope that you can join for as many of the live sessions as possible, but each live session will be recorded and sent to you after so you can watch on-demand.

  • Who is it for?

    The sessions will be useful for all parents who want to learn resilience skills. The downloadable worksheets are designed for children aged nine and above.

  • Where is it?

    The live session will take place on Zoom, an online platform that allows you to see Lucy and the content. If you don’t already have the Zoom app, you can download it for free here. Once installed on your device, simply click on the meeting link provided by us at the allocated time, and we will take care of the rest. There is a useful video tutorial on how to join a meeting here.

  • Can I ask questions?

    Absolutely, this will be a small group so you will have the opportunity to engage directly with the trainer. There is also a Facebook group where you can ask questions and chat with other parents, click here to join it now.

  • Will you be able to see me?

    Yes, these sessions are all about participation so your camera and microphone will be on.

  • Do we attend the session with our children?

    The sessions are for you on your own. You can then practice the resilience skills you learn with your children through the downloadable worksheets we’ll send you after the session.

Course Overview 

Session 1: Optimism during uncertainty

This session explores the link between what we think, how we feel, and how we behave. Flexible and realistic thinking lies at the heart of resilience, it enables us to do the ‘right’ thing at the right time, so we achieve the best possible outcome. Optimism wedded to reality.

Session 2: Developing the mental muscle

Helping our children gain more control over how they feel and behave. Reframing unhelpful choices, and developing empathy for self and others, so we can navigate uncertainty and learn to fail well.

Session 3: Compassionate communication

Effective communication is essential as our children move into adolescence. We can find ourselves in cycles of nagging and bickering and focusing on the ‘big’ conversations, and with it, we become disconnected. Resilience and compassion are the keys to staying connected.

Session 4: Mindsets and Energy

Nurturing and developing a growth mindset in our children. Understanding the psychological link between energy, emotions and behaviour.

Session 5: Parenting to strengths

Identifying the unique strengths of our children and us – and how to use them to best effect.


You will also be given downloadable handouts and worksheets to practice resilience skills with your children.
